I woke up in the middle of the night with an idea. As often happens when I fall asleep thinking of a problem an answer comes to me in those barely awake moments before complete slumber. My biggest bike problem is my broken spokes right now. Without some help the extra strain will break more spokes. I may not have the tools necessary to fix the bike but I can improvise. So, I created a spoke splint.
Using duct tape and tent stakes I have secured the broken spokes. I don’t know if it will help much but it cant hurt. After 15ish miles of riding this morning it seems to be holding. I’m not going to press my luck though, I’m keeping the torque down, going slow, and walking hills that I would normally try to power through. In French Lick I went to a Denny’s to recharge my batteries and plan out the next days and is easily the worst service I’ve ever received.
I think I’m going to lock and leave my bike in French Lick and walk to the weekend festival. It is a ten mile walk with about 30 lbs on my back. It will take about three hours but I’ve done a lot more with a lot more weight in the army. My only concern is the complete lack of phone reception out here. It is very possible that this will be my last post until I get back to French Lick on Sunday.
